In this section, we will introduce you some of the commonly used flowers at our local Florist. Some of them are seasonal, some of them are available whole year round. Whether it is used alone or mixed with others, they can create a beautiful arrangement. Discuss with your florist about the varieties of the flowers that you are interested in and let him or her put together something to fit your specific needs and create a great gift for someone special!

 

Alstroemeria

Alstroemeria is available whole year round. The main stems of these cut flowers are 2 to 3 feet long and branch into four to six short pedicels; each holding two to four flower buds.

Colours available are: Pink, white, yellow, orange, red. The vase life is about 1-2 weeks.

 

Anthurium

Anthurium is a tropical flower with a hard and glossy like leather petal. Colours available are Red, cream white, pink, green, 2 tone green red, rusty orange, maroon. Vase life is about 2-3 weeks.

Allium

This is seasonal flowers, peak in June - July. The flowers form into a snowball shape on a long single stem. Sizes varies, commonly found sizes around 10cm, or large about 14cm. Colours are in purple or white. Vase life about 1 week.

Amarylis

Amaryllis blooms are huge, trumpet-shaped flowers clustered atop of a long, leafless stems often more than half a metre tall, are topped by four or five of these outsize blooms, making an impressive display.

Colours - Red, White or 2 tone red white. Vase life about a week.

Bird of Paradise

A tropical flowers, named for their similarity in shape to the heads of tropical birds. Their blooms are bright orange with purple and the vase live is about one to two weeks.

 

Calla Lily

Calla Lily comes with this elegant natural curl shape, with think waxy petal. Colours available are bright yellow, light yellow, white, maroon, dark purple (like black), rusty orange. Vase life is about 1 week.

Take special care on the stem. Do not fill up too much water and cut stem end regularly to prevent curling.

Chrysanthemum

There are many flowers form in the family of Chrysanthemum. some with single flower in a stem, and some with multiple flowers in a stem. Flowers sizes varies. Colours available - White, Yellow, Green, 2 tone colours. Vase life about 1-2 weeks.

 

Carnations

The flowers are 2 to 3 inches wide on 1- to 2-foot stems. They are also available in miniature carnation varieties, feature several small flowers on one stem. Colors include white, yellow red, pink, red, purple, light green, 2 tone-colors. Vase life is about 2-3 weeks. 

Cymbidium Orchid

Cymbidium orchid flowers usually grow about 10 blooms of flowers in a single stem. Flower size is about 8cm wide. Also available in miniature cymbidium. Colour available - Pink, red, white, yellow, green. Vase life - 7 - 14 days

Delphinium

Flowers grow along spikes with stems that usually 3 feet long, and leafty. Vase life is about a week. Commonly available colours are Blue, purple.

 

Eustoma

Widely used flowers in arrangement. Eustoma flowers come with multiple blooms in a stem. They have very soft petals. Colours available - champagne, white, lilac, pink, 2 tone pink, 2 tone purple. Vase life - 7-10 days

 

Freesia

Available all year round with nice scent. Multiple blooms in one stem. Colours available are White, Lilac purple, yellow. Vase life about 7-10 days

 

Ginger Flower

Tropical flowers and is cold sensitive. Store at room temperature. Vase life 7-14 days.

Gypsophila

Small white flowers, also known as Baby breathe or million star. This is widely used on hand bouquet arrangement. Vase life - 7 days

Gerbera

Bright and cheerful flowers with huge varieties of colours - red, light pink, bright pink, champagne, white, yellow, 2 tone colours, orange are the popular ones. Vase life about 4 days.

 

Hydrangea

Four-petaled flowers grow in round clusters that are usually 4 to 8 inches wide. Flowers bloom in white, lavender, pink, green.

Fresh cut hydrangea flowers consume a lot of water. Vase life 7 days.

Hypericum

Hypericums have the shape like berries. Available in bright red, dark maroon brown. It has been widely used now as side flowers in an arrangement.  Vase life 7 - 10 days.

 

Iris

Flowers open to 1 to 3 inches across. Long, thin, pointed leaves grow from the base of the stem. Colors include bluish-purple, white . Many have yellow markings on the lower part of the petals. Vase life is 2-5 days.

 

Liatris

Liatris flowers are thin and longish. The flowers bloom and mature from the top of the stem downward. Clustered along the spike, they have a feathery look. Usually comes in purple. Vase life - 10 - 14 days

White Trumpet Lily

Lily family, with single bloom on a stem. Flower's shape like trumpet and with strong scent. Vase life about 5 - 7 days

 

Pink Lily

Trumpet-shaped flowers grow to a 6-inch diameter. A single stem carrying three to four blooms of flowers. Because blooms open at various times, most lilies live one to two weeks.

Matthiola

Matthiola has nice scent, form by many flowers form into the longish shape. Colours available - white, light purple, pink, light yellow. Vase life - 5 days

 

Roses

The widely used flowers for all arrangements and have huge varieties. Colours - Red, pink, shocking pink, champagne, multi-colour, yam purple, white, cream white, yellow, orange...and many more. Vase life 4 days.

 

Sweet William ( Dianthus)

Sweet william ( Dianthus) forms by many small bulbs flowers. Usually in size of 5-6cm, wide varieties of colours. Vase life - 7-14 days

 

Statice

Also known as 'forget me not'. Used as side flowers in an arrangement. Colours available - Dark purple, light purple, pink, creamy white. Vase life - 7-14 days 

 

Sunflower

Bright and cheerful, size about 10-14 cm diameter. Vase life - 5-7 days

Tulip

Single stalk flower with 6 petals. Colours include orange, red, pink, purple, bright pink, 2 tone colours. Vase life - 3-5 days
